The dome car "Ocean View" was attached to the front of the northbound
Adirondack at Albany on every second run during the fall foliage season.
The view from the car combined with fall colours is magnificent.

The train travels from Albany to Schenectady on CSX tracks then to
Rouses Point and Cantic on CP (D&H) tracks and finally from there to
Montreal on CN tracks.

The Mohawk & Hudson Rivers, Champlain Canal & Lake Champlain are all seen.

The video can be seen at

Enjoy!

Thanks, David. I've done the trip both in an ordinary Amfleet
coach and in the dome car, and can testify that the dome makes
a huge difference to one's ability to enjoy the scenery.

The train travels from Albany to Schenectady on CSX tracks then
to Rouses Point and Cantic on CP (D&H) tracks and finally from
there to Montreal on CN tracks.
Nitpicking detail: the transfer from CP to CN is at Rouses Point,
not at Cantic. Both railways have lines running north from Rouses
Point. On this map, <http://goo.gl/maps/aH3ST>, the line through
the green balloon marked "A" is CP and the one through "B" is CN.
The Adirondack used to run on the CP (ex-D&H) line through
Napierville and Delson to Windsor Station until 1986, but it now
runs on the CN line through St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and St-Lambert
to Central Station.

As proof that it's CN, here's the street view from "B", where
the line crosses the Odelltown Road. Look at the yellow sticker
on the signal bungalow. <http://goo.gl/maps/s69XG>

The green balloons didn't show up on that map for some reason.

Thank you, David, for a wonderful video.

I have done the trip behind D&H PAs, aboard one of Amtrak's Turbos and my last trip was Amfleet and a F40. PAs notwithstanding, yours was my favourite of the bunch. And I didn't even have to buy a ticket!

You did a fine job of filming and editing.

Much appreciated.

Great video. Like Derek I have done this run numerous times. PA's
including the cab of #17, avoided the Turbos, and F-40 return MTL to
Whitehall in the cab(s) of the F-40's of the day.

Thank you for the kind comments.

As with all of my youtube videos and my DVDs I do spend considerable
editing time trying to make it interesting for the viewer. This one took
about 15 hours to edit but it was fun and I enjoyed re-living the
experience.

I do have the southbound footage including stays in Westport, Whitehall,
Schenectady and Albany but I don't think it is as dramatic. Some of this
is from the dome (Montreal - Westport and Whitehall - Schenectady IIRC)
and some from Amfleet cars.

I also have lineside footage of both the Ocean and the Adirondack in the
Montreal and Saint Lambert areas taken on several visits to Montreal and
lots of footage of passenger trains from the Delta Montreal and from
the footbridge at Beaconsfield.

There is also my DVD on the Ocean (see my website for more information)
and my DVD on the railfan trip from Halifax to the Montreal Maintenance
Centre.

Enjoy!
