ReserVIA is showing a new Toronto-Ottawa frequency effective with the 31 October, 2014 change of card.

#40 departs Toronto at 1045, Kingston 1251, arriving Fallowfield 1437, and Ottawa at 1456.
#45 departs Ottawa at 1030, Fallowfield 1048, Kingston 1234, arriving Toronto 1448.
Both trains runs daily.

Good news indeed Doug.

Next hopefully will be an increase between Montreal and Toronto. Under four hours the way th' Turbo used to do it !

Then the Gaspe train afterwards ? HA !

Thanks for that news, Doug.

Both trains runs daily.
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. Reservia shows
them running only from Friday to Monday, not Tuesday to Thursday.

Next hopefully will be an increase between Montreal and Toronto.
After the big cutbacks of 1990, there were 40 Ottawa - Toronto (or
vice versa) trips a week, 44 Montreal - Ottawa and 72 Montreal -
Toronto. After the above trains start, there will be 96 Ottawa -
Toronto trips, 85 Montreal - Ottawa and 70 Montreal - Toronto.
(For Montreal - Toronto, I'm only counting trains on the direct
route via Cornwall, not the through trains via Ottawa, which are
included in the other numbers above.)

Montreal - Toronto VIA service has stagnated, while frequencies
to Ottawa have improved greatly. For a possible explanation,
see PDF pp. 149-154 (paper pp. 135-140) of <http://goo.gl/VT4T9Z>
or <http://atlantic.transport-action.ca/TAA_REPORTS_2014/Revitalizing%20New%20Brunswick%E2%80%99s%20Rail%20Sector%20Report.pdf>
on Canadian National's opposition to increased Montreal -
Toronto frequency for VIA.

Interesting report Tom.

However now that they i.e.CN got their ' free ' gift with a third track on that route I don't buy their excuses.

Next they' ll try to hold Via for more ransom. Demanding infrastructure enhancements along with a take or leave it ! attitude.

Look at all th' Ka-Zillion $$$ CN got for the use of their trackage currently underway for the AMT to Mascouche.

Trying to understand the railways and can't do responses is hard to figure out. When you look at the sheer number of trains they operated what 50 years ago ? ! Over the same sub divisions ?

I find their response very easy to understand - $$$$. Freight trains make money, passenger trains get in the way of freight. And just watch the vaunted CP-Amtrak cooperation vanish under E. Hunter.

Well if passenger train operating contracts generate so little $$$ for the railways why are those exchanged sums so difficult to obtain ? Why aren't they published in their annual reports ?

They' re seemingly such a big secret. Do you or anyone else know exactly what they are ?
