For the Canada Line the $5 add on fee to/from YVR (Vancouver
International Airport) does not apply if you have a prepaid
fare -Faresaver, Daypass, Monthly Passes, West Coast Express
weekly & 28 day passes, University Passes, Employer Passes,
& BC Bus Pass. Anyone paying a cash fare will be subject to
the $5 add on fare. Anyone frequently travelling to/from YVR
using transit I would suggest purchasing Faresaver Tickets
The TransLink web site says "FareSaver tickets will stop being
sold as Compass becomes widely available for customers in the
near future." (Compass is Vancouver's stored value fare card,
like Opus in Montreal and Quebec City or Presto in Toronto
and Ottawa.)
Also Faresavers have no expiration date.
Again from TransLink: "If you have leftover FareSavers, you'll
be able to use them FOR A LIMITED TIME [emphasis added] during
the transition from the old fare media to the new automated
fare collection system."

And once Compass arrives, the $5 surcharge is going to be added
to the price of day passes bought at the airport. Monthly pass
holders will still be exempt from the surcharge.

Tom you're correct about the Faresavers if & ever the Compass program
launches? Compass is currently over budget & behind schedule & the full
start up date of Compass has not been set yet. Once Compass is fully
operational Faresavers can only be used on the bus network as they will not
open the fare gates at any of the Canada Line, Expo, & Millennium Skytrain
lines as well as Seabus once they become operational. Once Compass is fully
launched Faresavers will be a thing of the past & will no longer be sold.
The Faresavers will still be able to be used on the buses as they will work
in the fare boxes until they are a thing of the past with customers.
