It's been a long time since I've seen the Canadian.. it's late so often that I haven't made much effort to try to catch it. It was pretty much on time today but had to take the siding at Bloom for a rocketing CN 902 Herzog train going the other way. 2 engines, 19 cars.

Wow Steve ... that place sure is flat!

I was wondering why VIA Rail seems to prefer Manor class sleeping cars over Chateaus?

I was wondering why VIA Rail seems to prefer Manor class sleeping cars over Chateaus?
Two major reasons for that Gordon:

1) 2 more Double Bedrooms over what the Chateaux provide
2) None of the Roomettes require climbing up into.

The clientele who travel on the train are more than likely seniors on tours. The double bedrooms are more often than not the desirable accommodation and the Manors provide more of them than the Chateaux. The same clientele usually also have some difficulty with the upper roomettes too.

Nice photos. I was on that train, we left Toronto about 2 hours late and were fairly consistently late all across the country until the Fraser Canyon where we made up some time and were about 30 min early into Vancouver. A great trip, the Canadian is certainly a pleasant way to get across the country.
