VIA 71 showed up this morning with two trains together, LRC on the front, second locomotive then 2 or 3 cars. Just saw from a distance. Anyone know why?

Talking to someone and the second train was 1 locomotive and 2 Budd cars so may be 85, is there a problem on the Guelph sub that they ran it attached to 71?

Talking to someone and the second train was 1 locomotive and

The VIA web site says that #84 has made it from Sarnia to Guelph
with no problems. It does have a notice "Due to scheduled work
programs, trains 84, 85, 87 and 88 will be delayed up to 20
minutes between October 3 and October 6, 2014." In the recent
past, that has usually meant weekend work on the Weston Sub
and a detour for VIA between Parkdale and Halwest on the
Newmarket, York and Halton Subs. There are no other notices
about problems with today's #85, and the web site is still
offering to sell tickets on it. So Walter's observation remains
a puzzle.

#71 normally turns in Windsor to become #76, so this looks like
it's just a continuation of the puzzle you posed this morning.

My first thought was that half of the trainset was deadheading
equipment for tomorrow's #82, but if there are just two cars
on that half, as you reported this morning, that doesn't sound
like #82. Besides, Doug Bardeau's equipment cycles say that
the equipment for #82 should be on #73, not #71/76.

By the way, the VIA web site says that #85 left Toronto on time
this morning, lost 25 min between there and Brampton (consistent
with a detour via Snider), then neither gained nor lost more
time from Brampton to London. So it doesn't seem that you
saw a detouring #85 attached to #71 this morning.

The mystery continues.

Sorry, tried to link to Luke's FB photo.

I went to Woodstock and caught it running 20 minutes late
Here are a couple I took. VIA 80 and VIA 76. A little grainy as they
were travelling at about 70 and it was very dark with rain threatening.
Shot at ISO 2500

Thanks, Walter. The video shows that the second half of #76 is
a P42 and four HEP2 cars. Now, #76 becomes #48 in Toronto and
runs to Ottawa. On Sundays, a second trainset is added to #48
to deadhead to Kingston to become Monday's #651. #651 uses
four HEP2 cars.

I'm just guessing, but maybe there was extra demand on #71 or #76
today, so instead of adding the second set in Toronto after #76
arrives and becomes #48, they added it this morning and are
running it from Toronto to Windsor to Kingston.

Unless they did some fancy switching in Toronto between #76's
arrival and #648's departure, it seems like a good bet that 6418
is taking #648 to Ottawa.
