All,I am a new member and am wanting to know some of the different car consists of the CN Ry service that ran from Prince Rupert to Jasper. I know VIA is still running this route but I am interested in the 1960-1970 era. If any one has this information I would greatly appreciate it.
I have been an avid rail fan for the past 45 years with a fond appreciation of passenger trains.
Thanks in advance,

All, I am a new member
Welcome to the group.
and am wanting to know some of the different car consists of
the CN Ry service that ran from Prince Rupert to Jasper. I
know VIA is still running this route but I am interested in
the 1960-1970 era.
I can't offer any firsthand observations from that era -- my
first trip on that route was in 1995 -- but here's what I've
gleaned from timetables.

April 1961 -- through Jasper - Prince Rupert service 6 days a
week. Coaches, Cafe-Lounge Car, Standard Sleepers. A Jasper -
Prince George set-out sleeper in summer (June 26 - Sept 9),
arrival in PG at 05:00, parked until 08:00.

October 1961 -- through Jasper - Prince Rupert service 6 days
a week. Coaches, Cafe-Lounge, Uppers, Lowers, Duplex Roomettes,
Double Bedrooms (probably an E series sleeper).

April 1962 -- through Jasper - Prince Rupert service 6 days a
week. Coaches Jasper - Rupert. Parlor Grill PG - Rupert only
(the daytime part of the route). Sleeper Jasper - PG only
(the overnight part of the route); 12 section, 1 drawing room
until Sept 29, 4 Sec, 8 Dup. Rmtte., 4 DBR (E series) effective
Oct 1.

October 1962 -- Jasper - PG 6/week: Coaches and 4-8-4 (E series)
sleeper. Arrive PG 06:00, parked until 08:00. Sleepers open in
PG at 21:30, depart 23:00.

PG - Rupert 3/week: RDCs

April 1963 -- same as October 1962, except sleeper changes to
12 sec, 1 DR from June 15 to Sept 19.

October 1963 -- same as Oct 1962

April 1964 -- same as Oct 1962, until May 25

May 25, 1964 -- return of through Jasper - Rupert service.
6/week east of PG, 3/week west of there. Coaches, parlor
grill, 4-8-4 (E series) sleeper.

October 1964 -- Jasper - PG 6/week: Coaches and 8 Sec, 4 DBR
sleeper.
PG - Rupert: 3/week, RDCs

April 1965 -- through Jasper - Rupert service.
6/week east of PG, 3/week west of there. 6/week over entire
route from June 25 to Sept 15. Coaches, diner lounge,
** 8 Sec, 1 DR buffet sleeper Jasper - Rupert;
** 12 Sec, 1 DR sleeper Jasper - Rupert in summer (June 25 - Sept 15),
Jasper - PG before June 25 and after Sept 15;
** 18 roomette sleeper Jasper - Rupert June 25 - Sept 15 only.

October 1965 -- Jasper - PG 6/week: Coaches, Sections, Compartments,
Drawing Room (exact sleeper configuration not specified, but sounds
like a heavyweight).
PG - Rupert: 3/week, RDCs

Bedtime for me. I'll do 1966-1970 tomorrow.

I'll do 1966-1970 tomorrow.
April 1966 -- through Jasper - Rupert service.
6/week east of PG, 3/week west of there. 6/week over entire
route from June 16 to Sept 18.
Sleeping cars only from Jasper to PG. Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes,
Bedrooms and Drawing Room, but no DR in summer. Evidently the
type of car changed in summer, but no exact details on car
configuration. No information on meal service, either east or
west of PG.

October 1966 -- 6/week through service on entire Jasper - Rupert
route. Coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and Bedrooms.
No drawing rooms, and no information on meal service.

April 1967 -- Daily through service Jasper - Rupert (the first
time, at least since 1961, the service was daily, not just 6/week).
Coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and Bedrooms. "Meal
facilities available."

October 1967 -- through Jasper - Rupert service.
6/week east of PG, 3/week west of there.
East of PG: Coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and Bedrooms.
Meal facilities available.
The same west of PG, except no roomettes. That suggests there
were at least two sleeping cars in use. Since PG - Rupert was
in daytime, I'd expect that all sleepers would be operating to/
from Jasper. But the assumption there were two sleepers may be
making too much of one small detail in the equipment table, which
doesn't explicitly say there were two.

April 1968 -- through Jasper - Rupert service. 3/week in shoulder
season, daily in summer (June 16 - Sept 16). The first time (at
least since 1961) that service was less than 6/week east of PG.
Coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and Bedrooms. Meal
facilities available.

October 1968 -- through Jasper - Rupert service.
6/week east of PG, 3/week west of there.
Coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and Bedrooms.
Meal and lounge facilities available. (a lounge hadn't been
mentioned previously)

April 1969 -- through Jasper - Rupert service.
6/week east of PG, 3/week west of there. Daily service on
entire route June 13 - Sept 13.
Coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and Bedrooms.
Meal and lounge facilities available.

October 1969 -- through Jasper - Rupert service. 3/week.
Unreserved coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and
Bedrooms. Meal and lounge facilities available.

January 1970 (timetable valid for entire year) -- through
Jasper - Rupert service. 3/week, except daily June 19 -
Sept 12.
Unreserved coach seats, Uppers, Lowers, Roomettes and
Bedrooms. Meal and lounge facilities available.
