Terry, great shots, thanks.

Nice to have an 'insider" at the MMC.

What are the visitors doing there?

Does VIA work on units other than theirs?

Great pics now does anyone have a side shot 6400? All I have seen so far if front and rear shots. What was the LLPX GP15-1 doing there? As well as the NBEC SD40??

Thanks Guys, It's hard to get shots from the sides as there is not
enough room inside the building with an unobstructed view. I'm not
sure why the two visitors were there but Via does do contract work
for other railways. I'll ask tomorrow when we go through the heavy
repair shop if anyone knows the reason for their visit.

I posted an outdoors shot of the 6400, in the Via Power photo file.

Here's a side shot for you Ian I would have taken a couple more but
it was a real crappy day with freezing rain and ice pellets.

Sorry Ian and Walter I never did find out what those visitor
locomotives were there for it might have been for wheel turning or
traction motor work?

Nice to see a close up of #204 - too bad that Montral gets both of
them.

Is the F40 behind #6457 being used for scrap? At least that's what it
looks like to me.

Looks like commuter service only for Quebec with the 6457

If that F40 is being used, it's probably being used for parts.

Probably one of the ones that have gotten wrecked over the years.

Here's the F40 behind the 6457. The 6430 was involved in a wreck
and is in pretty rough shape.

23rd November 1999 at Bowmanville. From the TSB report "Approaching
Mile 293.5, both VIA locomotive engineers heard the emergency radio
broadcast being transmitted by train 321 [after it had hit a
tractor-trailer on a private crossing] and immediately applied the
train brakes. A few seconds later, as the train rounded a one-degree
curve between Mile 293.6 and Mile 293, the locomotive engineers placed
the train brakes in emergency because of the limited visibility ahead.
They then saw the freight train ahead. VIA 68 struck the tractor and
tore it away from train 321 just before the freight train came to a
stop. VIA 68 was then travelling at a recorded speed of 62 mph. The
VIA locomotive event recorder indicated the reduction in train speed
from 87 mph to 62 mph over a period of 15 seconds before impact
rendered the recorder speed function inoperative." 6430 was the VIA
locomotive involved.

Neat to see that yard goat 204 still around, do it get used very often?

Both the 202 and 204 are in service and can be seen moving back and
forth in the yard during the day, as far as I can see they are used
on a regular basis however during my visit they were also using the
6453 as a shop switcher. Here's two more shots of the 204.

Further to the pic showing accident victim-loco VIA 6430, it was mentioned in a post in 2004 along with

6422 and 6450 as being written -off and for sale as a "hulk"- were there any "bites" on any of these units??
