My last two trips were on 47 and 44 this month and on both occasions the meal service started from the galley end of the car, so low numbered seat rows would be best. Something up to row 6 I'd say.

On some trains service starts at both ends and therefore mid car would be the worst for selection. You would think that this service method would be standard on more fully booked trains but 47 was pretty much full and the service was from the galley end only. So I'd try to get seats towards that end of the car if possible.

The first few rows are always good and, if the service is from both ends (common but not universal), so are the last few.
On the rebuilt LRC business class cars, row 5 has the best window placement if you want to sightsee and on 67 the a/b pair are on the lake side.
