Amtrak Adirondack bound for Montreal with Private Varnish NYC ``Babbling Brook`` . There is a Canadian connection to it. Operated by the Pullman Co. until 1957 when the car was retired and sold to Canadian Pacific Railroad and renamed Seaview. The CPR operated the car between Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto, CPR retired the car in 1969 and sold it to the Quebec Mining Company and they renumbered the car to #847. During its ownership under Quebec Mining Company the car was used as an official car for QMC & US Steel executives.

Babbling Brook and most other NYC lightweight sleepers were removed from Pullman lease on July 1, 1958. Babbling Brook and three others of the seven Brook series observation sleepers were sold to CP in 1959. All were renamed into the “View” series and were assigned to Montreal-Toronto and Ottawa-Toronto overnight pool trains until these stopped running. They appeared on the Atlantic Limited in the summer of 1967.

A little more info if I may.

Of the 4 Brook series cars that CPR acquired, 3 were identical. However 1
was unique. Originally Singing Brook, it became CP Mountain View. What
made this car a bit unique was that it was built to the same plan as Hickory
Creek and Sandy Creek which were the cars assigned to the Mid-Century 20th
Century Limited. Singing Brook and her 2 sisters could sub on the 20th
Century if and when needed. In fact one of these cars was on the last
eastbound run of the 20th Century. A quick spotting feature was the larger
windows in the observation area.

BTW Babbling Brook left Montreal Sunday morning on the tail end of Amtrak
#68. Nice sight in the brilliant sunshine!
