VIA's Bras d'Or was a tourist train that ran in Summer & Fall between
Halifax & Sydney on Wednesdays returning on Thursdays. On 16 September
2001 the F40PH-2 had traction motor problems on the climb up from
Antigonish Harbour. It coasted downhill to Monastery where CBNS GP50
5008 (ex BN & IORY) was attached and pulled the train to Port
Hawkesbury. Here GP9-4 4004 (ex Railink) was substituted for 5008 and
took the train to Sydney. Repairs were carried out overnight and 4004
returned with the train as far as Port Hawkesbury. The weather was sunny
and the wind was low so with the fall colours it gave me the opportunity
to record some great footage.

The video can be seen at

Enjoy.
