Some time back there had been some trials of a DMU unit for Rocky Mountaineer.
This link shows it at the Vancouver station during trials;
I had a tour of it at the time;

I happened to see a recent (private business article) article with an updated image and wondered if they had progressed any further with this, has another company taken on the DMU design after the original company that made the domes and DMU''s closed shop??

The company that went belly-up was Colorado Railcar. The last four cars that it built were a commuter version of the one that you saw at Pacific Central. They were made for the Westside Express commuter service in Portland, which went into service in 2009. The cars are similar, but not in the deluxe style with the windows curving up into the roofline. Westside Express has three powered units and one dummy.

I rode this service in 2010 and one of the crew told me that some of the later stages of assembly were actually carried out by the owner (Portland's Tri-Met transit authority), as the manufacturer was on its last legs.

The successor to Colorado Railcar was U.S. Railcar, which doesn't seem to have built anything. Here's a link to one of the more recent references that showed up in a web. search

Colorado Railcar's DMUs are history... not likely to ever return to
production.

While one company did acquire assets related to the DMUs they have done
nothing in regards to actually constructing more of these cars, being more
so a company that acquires assets in hopes of selling such off at a
profit. But my understanding from a former employee is that they only have
the original designs and none of the improvements that were incorporated
into the production cars (one DMU for Alaska and four DMUs and two trailers
for Tri-Rail, in Florida). If the company that acquired the designs would
want to place the DMUs back into production they would have to, in essence,
disassemble one of the existing cars so as to determine what changes were
made to the design since CRM did not document these changes.
